After a week in Porto, Portugal, we finally left for Santiago de Compestela Spain...by bus, in the pouring rain. It was a nice bus, nicer than you would expect. We had the back row and slept most of the way, but drove through beautiful countryside. Every home in the country seems to have grapes growing. We also drove through the Picos de Europa and think that maybe there is a potential side trip looming. Santiago de Compestela is the town where the
Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James) ends. The Camino is a long, 2-3 month walk along a road to the shrine of the apostle St. James, whose remains were brought to Spain from Israel.
We didn't do any of it. We did see plenty of people who did and they all looked injured and tired, but generally happy. The town is lovely and brimming with history and culture at every turn. We took a few pictures. I'm not the greatest photographer, but I was trying to convey the narrow streets. I was also trying to wrangle 2 hungry and tired boys who had NO interest in see a cathedral of any kind.
